Form-led capture with a guided setup.
Guided setup · not connectedKeep this page open. Unlocking here keeps your current work in place.
On a trusted personal device this also keeps your identity unlocked in this browser profile until you choose Lock device or Sign out. Anyone who can use this browser profile can act as you until then. Do not tick this on a shared or public computer. Only tick it on your own computer, with full-disk encryption (BitLocker or FileVault) turned on.
This browser is remembered for sign-in only.
Use this only on a personal device you trust, never on a shared device. When ticked, your identity stays unlocked in this browser profile, in every tab and after reloads, with no time limit, until you lock the device, sign out, or untick this box. After that your passkey or passphrase is needed again.
The server renews this sign-in while this tab remains unlocked and its trusted-device grant is valid. Lock or sign out before handing over your device. The longer server sign-in applies the next time you sign in.
An unlocked tab carries risk if malicious code runs in it or someone gains physical access. Browser memory and operating-system sleep or recovery are not guaranteed to remain stable. The key kept for this never leaves this device over the network, but any script that runs on the Clio site while it is kept (for example through a harmful browser extension) could copy your identity off this device, and locking would not undo that copy. Separately, malware, a harmful browser extension or a person at this computer can use it while it is kept.
On some browsers that key is stored in this browser profile's files, so anyone who can copy this computer's files or backups could use it. Turn on full-disk encryption (BitLocker or FileVault). Locking ends its use in this browser, but not copies of those files already taken.
While it is kept, reopening Clio also opens drafts autosaved on this device, which can include site coordinates, without your passkey. Creating a recovery kit, adding an unlock method, linking an account or approving another device still asks for your passkey or passphrase.
On a shared browser, leave this unchecked; its server sign-in expires after 1 hour and the signing key locks after 5 minutes of inactivity.

Recovery backup
Store the kit and recovery phrase separately. You need both if you lose access to this device. Never share them with support or another person.

Project pack · pilotDirect, bounded file import with a reviewable preview.
Direct import · readySelected recipe
Choose a reviewed source project after the provider's own consent step.
Select the form, project or layer set you want this Clio project to receive.
Private intake · preview · source IDs
Minimum read and submit scopes only; no database credentials.
Connection is not enabled from this screen. The provider consent, version and source selection must be completed explicitly.
Private staging
Upload a CSV or JSON file to preview its mapping against this project's preset. The original values stay visible; this step does not publish anything.
Incoming file content and project messages follow the 30-day intake retention policy before staging. Accepted contribution drafts have a separate lifecycle.
Reviewable mapping
Governed acceptance
Approval is tied to the exact import revision. A changed mapping, row revision or membership decision must be reviewed again.
No imports loaded.
Research fields
Add the fields your study needs on top of this project's profile. Each field says what it means with a term link (IRI), and each number has a unit. A published version never changes: to change it, publish a new version.
No schema versions loaded.
Starter schemas fit projects made with a Field Day preset. Make a new project with one, or draft your own fields below.
Scoped collaboration
Invitations are scoped to this project and a limited role. Joining a field group does not grant curator or staff authority.
Invitations are scoped to this project and expire after 7 days.
No team loaded.
Portable by design
Generate a download from an authorised API snapshot. Exports are views of the current project, not database credentials or a live sync.
Download one ZIP with your project's staged and accepted records, the schema versions they used, measurements in eMoF columns and a SHA-256 checksum for every file (a BagIt bag with RO-Crate and Frictionless descriptions). A Darwin Core Archive is added only when every record is an accepted Clio record version.
This is an export for your team. Nothing is published, deposited or registered. Project admins only.
Project conversation
Use discussion to ask for context or explain a finding. A message never approves an import, and sensitive fields should not be pasted here.
